The Village has contracted with Groot Industries for our waste hauling company for the single family homes. The cost is $22.00 ($19.80 for seniors, residents 65 years of age and over) per month.  This includes unlimited 95 gallon cart service and a 65 gallon recycling cart. Additional refuse and recycling carts are available for an additional fee.  Unlimited yard waste will be collected with the option to rent a 95 gallon cart designated for yard waste.  If you are over the age of 65, please fill out the Senior Rate Application below.

Pickups and Holidays

Garbage pick-up is on Fridays. For holidays observed, pick-up will be on Saturdays. If a holiday falls on a weekday, on or before your scheduled collection, service will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the holiday week. If the holiday falls on Sunday, it will be observed on Monday and service will be delayed one day, the entire week. The garbage schedule is available on the calendar on our website. Please have your containers at the curb by 6:30 am on Friday. Trash/recycling bins may not be stored in front of the home. Yard Waste Season

Yard waste season runs first Friday in April through last Friday in November

Hainesville residents will receive weekly collection of an unlimited amount of properly prepared landscape waste on the same day as refuse and recycling collection.  Landscape waste should be placed by each resident at the street side in front of the property by 6:30 a.m. on Friday.

Landscape waste should be placed in biodegradable “Kraft” type bags not to exceed 33 gallons in size or 50 pounds in weight.  Metal or plastic cans not exceeding 33 gallons in size or 50 pounds in weight will also be collected.

If the landscape waste cannot reasonably be placed in bags or cans, it must be securely tied with biodegradable string or twine in bundles not to exceed 4 feet in length, 24 inches in diameter, and 50 pounds in weight.

Recycling Guidelines

The following ARE ACCEPTED

  • Paper grocery bags
  • Newspapers: ad inserts accepted
  • Computer Paper: white and colored paper
  • Junk mail and envelopes
  • Magazines and catalogs
  • Phone books: no regular reading books
  • Chipboard/Paperboard: flatten and remove windows, liners and handles
  • Corrugated cardboard: flatten, 2’x2′
  • Aseptic Containers: Juice & Milk Cartons

Rinse the following items before placing in recycling cart/bin

Glass: clear, green and brown bottles and jars
Cans: metal, tin or steel can and empty aerosol cans
Aluminum: cans, clean foil and trays
Plastics #’s 1-5 and 7: first discard caps and metal rings

The following are NOT ACCEPTED

  • Plastic grocery bags
  • Toys
  • Hangers
  • Metal parts
  • Baby diapers
  • Pizza boxes
  • Plastic bags
  • Styrofoam
  • Light bulbs
  • Plate glass
  • Pyrex
  • Ceramic glass
  • Containers that held cooking oil, automobile oil, antifreeze, or pesticides.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Christmas trees for all residential customers will be collected each year at no additional charge on your collection day between January 2nd and the last regular collection date in January.

Composting & Food Scrap

From April 1st to November 30th, you can recycle your food scraps in your yard waste containers at no extra charge. Groot recommends that the food waste be placed into a yard waste bag and then placed in the yard waste container as to keep the containers clean.

Shoe Recycling Program

The Village of Hainesville in its continuing efforts at enhancing the environment while providing a service to its residents now has a shoe collection receptacle in the lobby of the Village Hall. Drop your shoe pairs (please tie and/or rubber band pairs together) in the receptacle anytime the lobby is open.  Currently all types of shoes can be brought in and collected, with the exception of: rollerblades, ice skates and winter boots.  All other boots, like dress boots, hiking boots and rain boots are accepted. Any brand and any size will be accepted. Shoes in any condition, from new or gently used, to those that are worn, will be accepted. Even those with stains or holes will be accepted. Shoes that are wet or moldy, or shoes without soles/falling apart will NOT BE ACCEPTED.  

Disposing of Electronics

As of January 1st, 2012, the Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act Landfill ban for certain electronics took effect. Televisions, Monitors, Printers, Computers, Electronic Keyboards, Facsimile Machines, Videocassette Recorders, Portable Digital Music Players, Digital Video Disc Players, Video Game Consoles, Small Scale Servers, Scanners, Electronic Mice, Digital Converter Boxes, Cable Receivers, Satellite Receivers and Digital Video Disc Recorders will no longer be allowed in the regular trash. Bring these items to a SWALCO Electronics Collection (847) 336-9340 or if your equipment is in good condition, consider donating it to a charitable organization.

Please remember Electronics cannot be placed curbside. Electronics can be taken to the SWALCO Recycling Center at 585 Berry Ave. Grayslake, IL 60030. (Please note, we no longer have an electronics recycling bin at the Village office.)

When should refuse be put at the curb?

Trash, recyclables and yard waste should be at the curb by 6:30 AM on Friday. Items can be set out after 3 PM on the day prior. All containers need to be removed no later than 8 PM on collection day.

What if all my trash does not fit in the cart?

If you have more refuse than will fit in your cart, please place it in a plastic bag next to the refuse cart.

What can I do with large items that do not fit in the refuse cart?

One large item is included in the regular weekly refuse pickup. Items should be placed next to the cart at the curb in a plastic bag.

How do I dispose of large appliances?

Large appliances such as refrigerators, water heaters, air conditioners and dishwashers, can be picked up by Groot Industries. There is a $45 fee per item for this special pick up. Call Groot Industries at 847-693-2700 in advance to make pick up and payment arrangements.

How do I dispose of construction waste?

Contact Groot Industries at 847-693-2700 to arrange a special pickup for construction waste.

Can I put a couch outside for pickup?

Please call Groot Industries at 847-693-2700 to schedule a special pick-up and there will be an additional fee per item.

Do I need to separate recyclables?

With the new recycling cart it is not necessary to separate any of your recyclable materials. The recyclable materials are brought to a facility that separates all of the items.

How do I dispose of yard waste?

Yard waste may be disposed of in yard waste bags, containers, or bundles not exceeding 4 feet in length, and 18 inches in diameter and under 50 pounds. Yard waste material that is not properly prepared will not be disposed of.

How do I prepare yard waste?

Landscape waste should be placed in biodegradable “Kraft” type bags not to exceed 33 gallons in size or 50 pounds in weight.  Metal or plastic cans not exceeding 33 gallons in size or 50 pounds in weight will also be collected.  Yard waste bags can be purchased at local hardware and grocery stores. If using your own container, you should designate “Yard Waste” on the container.

In what months is yard waste collected?

Properly prepared yard waste, branches, and brush will be collected from the curb on your regularly scheduled collection day from April 1 through November 30.

How should brush and branches be prepared?

All branches and brush must be tied in bundles no larger than 4 feet long and 24 inches in diameter, and must weigh less than 50 pounds. Do not use wire to tie bundles, securely tie with biodegradable string or twine.  An unlimited number of bundles may be set out at the curb for pickup on your assigned waste collection day.

Tree trunks and large branches over 3″ in diameter are not considered yard waste. Contact a tree cutting service to arrange a special pickup of these items.
